Consistency is key…

This is arguably an overused adage, but not without cause.

I (Molli) didn’t play sports as a kid. I’m almost comically clumsy and uncoordinated, and truth be told, I had no interest.

But thankfully, I had friends in high school who enjoyed going to the gym, and I realized how much exercise helped my anxiety (unlike gym class which heightened my anxiety to a fever pitch).

Since having my son in March of 2020, due to the pandemic, I have been able to work out more consistently than ever before.

Whereas I used to take a 50 minute barre class 2-3 times a week and do my best to be active in between, I now CONSISTENTLY take a 30 min barre class online 3x a week (thanks Pure Barre Fairfax).

A few months back, I also added a 20 minute yoga practice in between barre days which has been an incredible movement break on my non-barre days, and resets my nervous system through the breath work.

So if I add up the time, I’m working out the same amount as before, about 2 hours a week total.

But I’m doing some form of strengthening and lengthening exercise nearly every day. I’m giving my body time to warm and release any tension I was holding, and I’m inviting my mind to relax.

I look different than I did before my son, a little softer round the middle…but I’m much stronger than I was before his birth. That’s the consistency.

The same is true of your journey with physical therapy. You have to show up and do the work with consistency so that you are always growing.

With whatever your issue or injury, we firstly try to relax/mobilize the area(s), secondly, we work to re-educate the muscles involved, THEN thirdly, we strengthen. We want you leaving us and PR-ing! Not just leaving us and then coming back to us with another injury in a year or two.

Each phase is equally important even though not each has as much to show for the work.

So show up, and show up consistently. We are here and we want to help you heal your body ♥️
